On 10 Jul 1460 the Yorkist army led by the future Edward IV King England (18) and including Richard "Kingmaker" Neville 16th Earl Warwick, 6th Earl Salisbury (32) , George Neville Archbishop York (28) , William Neville 1st Earl Kent (55) , Edmund Grey 1st Earl Kent (43) , Edward Brooke 6th Baron Cobham (45) and John Scrope 5th Baron Scrope Bolton (22) defeated the Lancastrian army at Northampton during the Battle of Northampton. Henry VI King England, II King France (38) was captured. Humphrey Stafford 1st Duke Buckingham (57) , John Talbot 2nd Earl Shrewsbury, Earl Waterford (42) , Thomas Percy 1st Baron Egremont (37) and John Beaumont 1st Viscount Beaumont were killed. Thomas Tresham (40) fought. William Beaumont 2nd Viscount Beaumont and William Norreys (19) were knighted. Thomas "Bastard of Exeter" Holland was executed following the battle.

On 30 Dec 1460 the Lancastrian army took their revenge for the defeats of the First Battle of St Albans and the Battle of Northampton during the Battle of Wakefield at Sandal Castle. The Lancastrian army was commanded by Henry Holland 3rd Duke Exeter (30) and Henry Percy 3rd Earl Northumberland (39) , and included John Courtenay 15th Earl Devon (25) and William Gascoigne (30) , both knighted, and James Butler 1st Earl Wiltshire, 5th Earl Ormonde (40) , John "Butcher" Clifford 9th Baron Clifford (25) , John Neville 1st Baron Neville Raby (50) , Thomas Ros 9th Baron Ros Helmsley (33) and Thomas St Leger (20) .

On 30 Dec 1460 at the Battle of Wakefield at Sandal Castle the Yorkist army was heavily defeated. Richard York 3rd Duke York (49) , Thomas Neville (29) , Thomas Harrington (60) , William Bonville 6th Baron Harington (18) and Edward Bourchier were killed. Following the battle Richard Neville 5th Earl Salisbury (60) was beheaded by Thomas "Bastard of Exeter" Holland. William Bonville (40) was executed. Thomas Parr (53) fought in the Yorkist army.

On 30 Dec 1460 following the Battle of Wakefield at Edmund York 1st Earl Rutland (17) was murdered by John "Butcher" Clifford 9th Baron Clifford (25) at Wakefield Bridge.

02 Feb 1461 Battle of Mortimer's Cross (Wigmore)

On 02 Feb 1461 at the Battle of Mortimer's Cross at Wigmore the future Edward IV King England (18) commanded the Yorkist forces including William Hastings 1st Baron Hastings (30) , John Wenlock 1st Baron Wenlock, John Tuchet 6th Baron Audley Heighley, Baron Tuchet (35) , John Savage (17) and Roger Vaughan (51) . In the Lancastrian army Owen Tudor (61) (captured by Roger Vaughan (51) ) and his son Jasper Tudor 1st Duke Bedford (29) fought as well as James Butler 1st Earl Wiltshire, 5th Earl Ormonde (40) . Gruffydd ap Nicholas Deheubarth (68) was killed.

On 02 Feb 1461, following the Battle of Mortimer's Cross at which he was captured, Owen Tudor (61) was beheaded in the Market Place.

17 Feb 1461 Second Battle of St Albans

On 18 Feb 1461 the Lancastrian army defeated the Yorkist army at Second Battle of St Albans and rescued Henry VI King England, II King France (39) . The Lancastrian army was commanded by Henry Holland 3rd Duke Exeter (30) and included Henry Percy 3rd Earl Northumberland (39) , John Mowbray 3rd Duke Norfolk (45) , Henry Grey 7th Baron Grey Codnor (26) and Richard Welles 7th Baron Willoughby Eresby, 7th Baron Welles (33) . Thomas Ros 9th Baron Ros Helmsley (33) , William Tailboys Baron Kyme (46) , John Talbot Earl Shrewsbury, Earl Waterford (12) and Thomas Tresham (41) were knighted.

On 18 Feb 1461 at the Second Battle of St Albans the Yorkist army included Richard "Kingmaker" Neville 16th Earl Warwick, 6th Earl Salisbury (33) , William Fitzalan 16th Earl Arundel (43) , John Wenlock 1st Baron Wenlock and Henry Bourchier 2nd Count Eu, 1st Earl Essex (57) . John Neville 1st Marquess Montagu (30) was captured. Robert Poynings (42) and James Luttrell Baron Dunster were killed.

On 18 Feb 1461 at the Second Battle of St Albans John Grey (29) was killed fighting for Lancaster. A death that was to have far reaching effects; his widow Elizabeth Woodville Queen Consort England (24) subsequently married Edward IV King England (18) .

On 18 Feb 1461 after the Second Battle of St Albans William Bonville 1st Baron Bonville (68) and Thomas Kyriell were beheaded after having protected Henry VI King England, II King France (39) during the battle. Margaret of Anjou Queen Consort England reneged on their immunity and tried them in front of her seven year old son Prince Edward who ordered them to be beheaded.

On 29 Mar 1461 the Battle of Towton was a decisive victory for York bringing to an end the first war of the Wars of the Roses. Said to be the bloodiest battle on English soil 28000 were killed mainly during the rout that followed the battle.

On 29 Mar 1461 at the Battle of Towton the Lancastrian army suffered significant casualties including Henry Percy 3rd Earl Northumberland (39) , Richard Percy (35) , Ralph Bigod, Ralph Bigod (50) , John Bigod, Robert Cromwell (71) , Ralph Dacre 1st Baron Dacre Gilsland (49) , Humphrey Dacre 1st Baron Dacre Gilsland (37) , Ralph Eure (49) , John Neville 1st Baron Neville Raby (51) , Lionel Welles 6th Baron Welles (55) , John Beaumont, Thomas Dethick, Everard Simon Digby, William Plumpton and William Welles (51) who were killed.

Those fighting for York included John Stafford 1st Earl Wiltshire (36) , John Scrope 5th Baron Scrope Bolton (26) and Richard Welles 7th Baron Willoughby Eresby, 7th Baron Welles (36) . Of the Lancastrian army William Tailboys Baron Kyme (49) fought. Robert Hungerford 3rd Baron Hungerford (33) and Philip Wentworth 4th Baron Despencer (40) were both captured. Henry Beaufort 3rd Duke Somerset (28) was beheaded following the battle.
